What is Karuizawa West District like??

Karuizawa's climate is blessed with cool, clear air.
In fact, the eastern part of Karuizawa, despite its comfortable temperature, has a low percentage of sunny mornings.
In summer, the humidity is extremely high, with fog rolling in.
If you don't use air conditioning to dehumidify your bedding, it will get moldy.
However, once you cross Naka-Karuizawa and enter the slightly higher Karuizawa West District area, you will find that
the sunny-weather rate is higher and the humidity is much lower.
As people are learning more about these slight differences in the environment, the housing demand is increasing in the West District.
Traditionally, the West District has been inhabited by those who support the daily life of the community such as craftsmen and others engaged in commerce with their own offices.Recently, however, small and fancy gourmet restaurants with much originality and IT-service providers are opening their businesses there.
Shinano-Oiwake Station is located at the highest elevation in Japan among all the private railways. It is 957 meters above sea level.
The Station started its operation in 1909 and will celebrate its 100-year anniversary in 2023 with the current station building.
The wooden station building is rustic yet makes us feel irresistibly nostalgic.
It still welcomes and sends off local people every day.
